Tips for maintaining and caring for lvt flooring

Nov. 12, 2024

Luxury Vinyl Tile (LVT) floors are durable, water-resistant, and easy to maintain. With proper care, they can retain their appearance and longevity. Here are some maintenance and care tips:

Tips for maintaining and caring for lvt flooring

1. Daily Cleaning

Sweep or Vacuum: Regularly sweep or vacuum (without a beater bar) to remove dirt and dust, which can scratch the surface over time.

Mop with Warm Water: Use a damp mop with warm water to clean the floor, as this removes surface dirt without needing chemicals.

2. Weekly or Biweekly Cleaning

Use a Mild Cleaner: For a deeper clean, use a neutral pH cleaner specifically for vinyl floors. Avoid using wax, bleach, or ammonia-based products, which can damage the finish.

Avoid Excess Water: LVT floors are water-resistant but not waterproof. Use a damp mop instead of a soaking wet mop, and promptly wipe up any spills.

3. Protection from Scratches and Dents

Furniture Pads: Place felt pads under furniture legs to prevent scratches and dents.

Avoid Rolling Chairs: Use floor mats under rolling chairs or replace hard wheels with rubberized options.

Protective Rugs: Place rugs or mats at entryways to trap dirt and debris that can scratch the floor.

4. Avoiding Sun Damage

Use Curtains or Blinds: Direct sunlight can cause fading. Use curtains, blinds, or UV-resistant window films to reduce sun exposure.

Move Rugs Periodically: Moving rugs or furniture around periodically prevents uneven fading from sunlight.

5. Handling Stains and Spills

Wipe Spills Immediately: Quickly wipe up spills to prevent stains and keep the floors from becoming sticky or slippery.

Stain Removal: For tougher stains (like oil or grease), use a small amount of rubbing alcohol on a cloth. Avoid harsh chemicals or scrubbing, which may dull the finish.

6. Regular Inspection and Preventive Care

Check for Wear: Inspect for signs of wear in high-traffic areas and consider using area rugs or runners to protect them.

Professional Cleaning: Occasional professional cleaning can help maintain the floor’s appearance and prolong its lifespan, especially in commercial or high-traffic settings.

By following these steps, your LVT floors will remain beautiful and functional for many years.
